New Year's Fashion Resolutions

Happy 2009 everyone! Now that the holidays have passed and we’re looking at a fresh new year ahead, I know everyone is making their new year’s resolutions. A lot of my clients have made financial resolutions, a particularly savvy choice in the new economy. Resolving to stay economically sound doesn't mean you can’t continue to enjoy developing your style even during a recession.
Take this time to inject some creativity into your wardrobe, while remaining budget conscious.
1. Make a list and check it twice: Shop only for a few items that you know will round out your wardrobe. Take your list with you, and have the resolve to stick to it.
2. Upgrade the quality level: Even higher-end retailers are feeling the recessional pinch. Now is the time when you might be able to upgrade the quality of your clothing items for the price you’d pay for a lower quality item. What’s the upside here? You might spend the same as you would ordinarily but the higher quality of the items you buy means they’ll look richer, wear better, and last longer.
3. Accessorize: Use exciting, inexpensive accessory changes to update your existing wardrobe and keep your budget in check. One neutral or black dress can take on a number of different looks when paired with one piece of chunky costume jewelry or funky patterned scarf. Experiment!
4. Tailoring: Compare the cost of tailoring against purchasing new, and then update existing wardrobe items by having them tailored to meet the current trend: taper your straight leg jeans for a skinny look, or take in a men’s wear vest for a curvy, fitted look for a far more reasonable price point than buying a new item.

Where the Wild Things Are

With the recent hype of all things furry, there's no need to go into hibernation this winter. Fur and faux fur vests crawled their way down the Fall/Winter 09 runways, instantly warming up our fashion senses. Seen here on model Erin Wasson, the fur vest can be worn as a chic or bohemian look.
For a chic day look, throw a vest over a loose henley and skinny jeans, and finish with a pair of flats or moccasins.
At night, go with a black vest over a pair of shiny black leggings and a sleek blouse... don't forget the leather booties.
A faux fur vest doesn't need to be expensive to look it. Faux fur is an affordable and ethical option, and there are many out there to choose from without sacrificing the overall look.
It's time to start the wild fabulousness!

Hound of Style

This roomy shoulder bag by revolutionoftheheart has the skills to pay the bills. Metal accents, houndstooth, and a bow? Color me a Brit in love!
While matching your bag to your clothes and other accessories is suitable fashion behavior, color-coordinating can sometimes get snoozy. To change things up, throw a statement-making purse into the mix—something bright, bedazzled or patterned—like. It goes with nothing, and thus, goes with everything. This will lighten up any outfit for any occasion.

8-week, 19-city tour preceded by New Year's Eve kick-off at Madison Square Garden — The World's Most Famous Arena!!!
NEW YORK (Dec. 11, 2009) — For Mariah Carey's legions of North American fans, the long wait is over, as the international superstar announces her first major tour itinerary in more than three years. Following a festive New Year's Eve kick-off at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the "Angels Advocate" Tour begins Jan. 2, 2010, at the Borgata in Atlantic City, N.J., and wraps up Feb. 27 at The Pearl Concert Theater in Las Vegas, Nev.
Honey B. Fly, the official Mariah Carey Fan Club, will be offering exclusive member pre-sales for all show dates. Fans can get details on the official Web site, MariahCarey.com. Tickets for the majority of the tour will go on sale Dec. 19.
The 8-week, 19-city "Angels Advocate" Tour is the first major tour by Mariah Carey since The "Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, The Hits, The Tour" of August through October 2006. The opening act on the "Angels Advocate" Tour will be RydazNrtist, a new R&B group signed to Nick Cannon's NCredible Entertainment.
MEMOIRS OF AN IMPERFECT ANGEL, Mariah Carey's 12th studio album, follows her multi-platinum E=MC2 (2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (2005). The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. Soundscan's biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured "We Belong Together" (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. Three years later, "Touch My Body" (from E=MC2) became her 18th #1 Hot 100 hit, surpassing Elvis Presley's previous record of 17 #1 Hot 100 Hits. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits. The success of E=MC2 brought total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 175 million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history!

Today is a Precious Day!

In “Precious,’’ Claireece Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) usually comes home from school and prepares dinner for her mother, Mary (Mo’Nique), in their Harlem apartment. Mary could probably make dinner herself. But it’s easier for her to throw the dinner out or at Claireece if she’s not the cook. Mary curses at Claireece, who is dark-skinned, overweight, and, at 16, having an impossible time making it of out of middle school. Claireece, who prefers to be called Precious, stands there and absorbs Mary’s tirades, as if it were her daughterly duty. She did the same when her father raped her, twice leaving her pregnant and Mary violent with jealousy. The relationship doesn’t change. But the younger woman realizes it needs to.
This movie catalogs a wealth of human ugliness. It’s even been made to look ugly, presumably to underscore the horror movie that is Precious’s life. (Mary castigates her daughter from a stairwell just like Piper Laurie did to Sissy Spacek in “Carrie.’’) But “Precious,’’ in its own way, is a work of astonishing joy. Avoiding the conventional tricks of lifting an audience up, the movie looks into this girl’s wide, brown face and her bleak little life and sees, despite everything, a reason to live. We will all see that in this Lee Daniels piece.

Rocking a St Tropez Tan!!
As someone who loves the look of a tan, I rely heavily on the art of bronzing to give my clients—and self—an au natural, I just came back from an exotic vacation type of glow. One of my new favorite ways to do this is with St. Tropez Bronzing Rocks.
As the latest addition to the St. Tropez faux tan repertoire that never lets us down, these glowing stones are just as wondrous...provides insta-tan! Whether you are getting ready for a big event or night out on the town, modestly brush on some of this shimmer to define your cheeks, highlight the eyes and add an all-over body glisten. Sun-kissed skin is an accessory in its own right.
Availability: St. Tropez Bronzing Rocks ($40). For additional information on the St. Tropez line, visit Sttropeztan.com.

Festive Winter Spa Treatments!

Common winter spa treatments are intended to rejuvenate the body while promoting calming moments for the mind. The very word "spa" can evoke images of long soaks in a tub, muscle relaxing massages and a chance to restore the skin to a more youthful appearance. It sounds like a few hours spent in paradise.
Winter can be very harsh on the skin. The lack of humidity and the cold air drain the skin of moisture and promote aging. As if that weren’t enough, the winter months can be mentally dreary with less sunlight and long nights. A trip to the spa can be the perfect answer to the winter blues and the need to protect the body from the ravages of the frigid winter air.
Common winter spa treatments include some of the most relaxing and restorative services available in the health and beauty market. Spa treatments often begin with a massage which stimulates the skin and promotes healthy blood flow. The massage may be followed by a customized facial using cleansers and moisturizers that contain plant extracts and skin protecting creams or lotions.
The spa treatment can include using a body scrub containing a gentle exfoliate to leave the skin renewed. Other common winter spa treatments include pedicures, manicures and full body wraps. Normally, clients can mix and match the treatments preferred resulting in a customized plan ideally suited to their needs.
During the winter, going to the spa can provide the needed relaxation and body care that will help you get through the dark winter days. Winter weather can cause a lot of damage to skin. A spa treatment goes beyond the home treatments in that special products are used for deep cleaning and hydrating winter worn skin.
The deep hydration helps the skin protect itself even while being bombarded by winter winds and frigid air. The common winter spa treatments are popular, because they rejuvenate and breathe new life into tired skin while promoting a peaceful mind.

3rd Annual Fashion Rocks

The 3rd Annual Fashion Rocks in New Orleans
Friday night marks the official arrival of Fashion Rocks 3, an annual fashion show and charity event founded by New Orleans native and former America's Next Top Model contestant Wendy Wiltz.
Born in the year 1983, Wendy Wiltz is an African-American beauty from New Orleans, Louisiana. She started her modeling career when she was still a student at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini High School, where she engaged in such sports as track and field and swimming. She was also a member of the National Art Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Renaissance Club and Students Against Drugs and Alcohol. When she was in her second year, a local modeling agency recruited her and immediately she was chosen to appear on a "Hot and Spicy Pringles" commercial. She then went on to become the spokesmodel for the hair shows of Aguage, Sebastian, and L 'OREAL. In 2001, she graduated from high school and went on to major in Interior Design at Louisiana State University. In 2004, she modeled for the Johnson Publishing Company's Ebony Fashion Fair Tour. She also appeared in several print ads and fashion shows for designer Harold Clarke.
Despite her extensive background in modeling, Wendy was the second to be voted off from America's Next Top Model, Cycle 6. Shortly before she came on the show, Hurricane Katrina hit her hometown of New Orleans, leaving thousands homeless and without proper food and shelter. Wendy was so worried about her family that not only did she spend a lot of time on the phone with them, she also lost most of her concentration and focus, resulting in her poor performances during the first two photo shoots.
Being eliminated from the show did not discourage Wendy from pursuing her dream of becoming a supermodel. In interviews she did with the New York Post and The Times Picayune, she assured her fans that they would be seeing more of her in the years to come. Currently, she is living in New York City. Since her appearance on America's Next Top Model, she has worked for clients such as BET, Vibe Magazine, Marc Ecko and Matrix to name a few.
A live performance and fashion show featuring models from the hit television series, America’s Next Top Model and designs by Conrad Lamour, is topped off by a mixer for all patrons. Proceeds are being donated to Deuce McAllister’s Catch 22 Foundation.
Deuce McAllister’s Catch 22 Foundation is an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of under-privileged youth and adolescents in the Gulf south region. It provides positive role models providing unique opportunities and a financial commitment to making a difference.
Other special guests include local politicians, NBA players, NFL players, actors, actresses, and New Orleans’ top radio personalities.
Today, Friday, Nov 6 9:30p at Metropolitan, New Orleans, LA.

Debutante Balls in New Orleans

Traditional glamour typically reigns supreme at debutante balls, yet these events still maintain a modern-day allure. Debutante balls, also known as cotillions, originally were intended to introduce girls dressed in extravagant white gowns to society. Now the balls often serve as fundraisers, with most taking place during the Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday seasons when the young ladies, who are typically freshmen or sophomores in college, return home from school.
An evening as carefully orchestrated as a debutante ball requires a similarly thought-out menu. Four hotels servicing cotillions share their different takes on providing a dining experience for an evening of dancing, drama and bustling white gowns.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
At Le Debut des Jeunes Filles de la Nouvelle Orleans, the oldest debutante ball in New Orleans, the Hilton New Orleans Riverside serves light fare at 6 p.m. just to the debutantes as they rehearse for their official presentation later in the evening. The assorted finger sandwiches include cucumber, chicken salad, turkey and tuna, as well as pesto pinwheels, muffulettas, shrimp sesame wraps, Cajun crawfish pies and vegetable quesadillas.
While the girls in New Orleans practice their curtsies, the Adam's Mark Hotel St. Louis practices its menu. The hotel services the Roman Catholic Fleur de Lis Ball, where the girls are presented to the archbishop, and the Veiled Prophet Ball, a 1,200-guest event more than a century old. Marianne Rogers, catering sales manager for the hotel, says her team typically holds six menu tastings for each ball, and since many girls are in both balls, the same menu can't be repeated. To be prepared, the chef begins planning the menu for the following year as soon as the balls — which take place within a week of each other — end, with ball committee members sampling the menu and offering suggestions.
DRESS DEFENSE
With the guests of honor all in white, debutante ball coordinators take many precautions to prevent spills. Tony Abadie, director of catering at Hilton New Orleans Riverside, echoes other catering directors by saying, “We always serve just water and Sprite — in case they spill anything on themselves, it won't be seen.” Menus also avoid messy dishes to prevent similar problems.
The tables can pose as big a risk to gowns as the food. All the linen has to be white so dye doesn't come off on the dresses. In addition, the Adam's Mark puts a seamstress as well as a laundry person armed with club soda on duty to attend to spills on gowns immediately. Another ball suggests another method to prevent spills: forbidding people to hold drinks as they greet the debutantes in the receiving line. Just think- you would hate for one of the adults to go through and hug someone while holding a glass of red wine.
The debutante balls are a great way of holding on to traditional classiness!

Deborah Lippman's Sizzling Nails

Just as our wardrobe reflects the changing of the seasons, so should our nail polish! For fall, we should be loyal to deep classic reds like Chanel Vamp and Essie Wicked, but you can switch them out with something sparkly on the holidays. Deborah Lippmann has the right idea with her latest twinkling hue—Marquee Moon.
A silvery sequin lacquer is the ultimate shade for all of your festive soirees...like a disco ball on your nails! I also recommend it to those of you who are practicing the biker trend—the metallic finish looks awesome alongside chunky chain bracelets and pyramid stud rings. Can't get enough shimmer? Add some of Deborah Lippmann's* other new shades to your repertoire to sizzle!

Michael Jackon: This is It

“This is it, this really is it,” announced Michael Jackson in his last official public appearance, at the O2 centre on March 5th, 2009. He could have had no idea how true that phrase would turn out to be. The self-styled King of Pop is gone but his fashion influence will live on forever. There was to be no triumphant comeback just a final bizarre twist in pop’s strangest soap opera.
When Michael Jackson died in June, he was just days away from launching a 50-show run of comeback concerts in London. Now, video footage of preparations for those performances have become "Michael Jackson's This Is It," a documentary opening worldwide today.
The simultaneous showings around the globe will be anchored by a star-studded premiere at the Nokia Theatre, a 7,100-seat concert venue across the street from Staples Center, where many of Jackson's rehearsals - and his high-profile public memorial - were held. Some of Jackson's family members and friends have seen "This Is It" in its entirety. Elizabeth Taylor, a longtime friend of the pop star, posted her thoughts Monday on Twitter. "It is the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seen," she wrote on the micro-blogging site. "It cements forever Michael's genius in every aspect of creativity." The 77-year-old actress added that she "wept from pure joy at his God-given gift" and urged her fans to see the film "again and again."
"This Is It" opens in theaters Wednesday for a limited run, lending it some of the exclusivity of Jackson's aborted concert stand in London.

First Lady Attire

Lately, we've become especially fascinated with Michelle Obama's style picks. Whether she asked for it or not, her fashion choices will be highly scrutinized throughout Barack's presidency. And so far she's been doing very well, with her consistently chic sheaths from up-and-coming designers like Thakoon, plus the occasional J. Crew or H&M thrown in. It's this high-low mix, good taste and strong character that will inevitably turn her into a full-fledged fashion icon during the presidential term.

Style 101: How to Apply False Lashes

So you are thinking, "I love those eyelashes I see the girls wearing in the videos, but have no idea how to put them on".. well right, but we were all there at one point. Like anything putting on eyelashes is just another lesson in your Glam University. I am today here as your professor!
First- I carefully pull the lashes off of their packaging , and I try to remove as much of the packaging glue from the lashes as I can, this will leave a cleaner strip to work with. Then I bend the lashes by rolling around my finger to more closely follow the natural rounded lash line of my model. Now I test the length of the lashes (this is where the video picks up). I find I usually have to cut the length down a little for most people, and always cut length from the outer end (where the lashes get longer). Once they are sized right, I carefully apply eyelash glue evenly along the entire strip (I use clear surgical adhesive, or clear eyelash adhesive, but it also comes in black- if you have hair glue you can use that too!). Then I wave it in the air or gently blow on it for ten seconds or so until it just starts to get tacky; when it's too wet it won't stick properly. Now carefully and quickly apply the lashes as close to the lash line as possible, making sure the glue adheres to the skin of the lid (some prefer to adhere the glue to the actual lashes right where they meet the skin; ideally the glue will adhere to both at the point where they meet). While the glue is still a bit wet, you can make adjustments where needed, for me this is usually pushing the lashes down closer to the lashes in some areas with a fingernail or the flattened end of a brush handle (as seen in this video). Only put glue on one lash at a time - unless you're up for trying to fix a big mess.
Now any questions? Of course we have homework: Put on your lashes, enjoy and look Fab!

How to Dress Your Age This Fall

One of the biggest issues 20-year-olds have is letting go of the collegiate look and embracing an office-appropriate wardrobe. Flip-flops, logo sweatshirts and faded denim should be confined to your weekend wardrobe, if at all. This is the time in your life you want to climb the corporate ladder and be taken seriously, but you still want to have fun doing it.
Our past rules about mixing colors no longer apply. Black, navy, gray and brown can all be worn together, as can stripes and patterns. The trick to mixing your patterns is to stay in the same color family. A wide or narrow belt over your cardigan looks sweet and is a great way to define your waist.
Fall fashion in your 30s
In your 30s, your wardrobe needs to work 24/7 — you should be able to go to the office and look fab and then go out at night in the exact same thing. The new trend is to have your look take you from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. — no accessory changes necessary.
This fall, a shapely floral dress looks good on everyone and goes just about everywhere. To give the dress a little extra charm, add vintage-y accessories.
Fall fashion in your 40s
The old rule of keeping hemlines below the knee once you hit 40 has been put to shame. Clearly, you don't want to go too mini (if it feels inappropriate, it probably is), but there's nothing that looks more modern than a great coatdress in a fancy fabric paired with an opaque black tight.
The new shoe style this fall is an oxford-inspired heel — look for a fall fabric like tweed, or patent leather. The delicate balance of masculine and feminine touches also looks great with suits.
Fall fashion in your 50s
If you’re in your 50s, this is the season to invest in a coat that’s anything but boring. A bright red trench is the perfect attention-grabber. A wide-leg jean makes this ’70s-inspired look totally 2009, and it would be just as chic on a 20-year-old as it is on a woman in her 50s.

How to Edit Your Closet

Pull out everything from your closet. This mayscare you to death, but it is best to begin with a clean slate and be able to access all of the things you own. If you are storing (and cramming) your luggage, tennis rackets and winter coats all side by side, keep in mind that this is primarily a clothes closet (with room for shoes and small purses). Ideally, store coats in a front hall coat closet and sports equipment all together where you can find it readily before heading out to the gym or a game (i.e. in a designated spot in the garage or kitchen closet). Off-season clothing should be stored in another closet, attic, or something similar in breathable, canvas storage bags. Consider grouping category specific clothing like swimwear or workout clothes with like items in individual canvas boxes (with those that allow for an exterior label where you can clearly write the contents “beachwear”) and stored high up on a shelf as space allows.
Tip: The less something is used, the higher in the closet it should go: keep things that you are wearing this season visible — at eye-level as much as possible. The space that is usually the most wasted is the vertical space in a closet.
Sort through your clothes and shoes and make 3 piles:
1. Clothes to keep that fit well and are still stylish
2. Clothes to give away to little sister/charity
3. Clothes to be thrown away (stained, torn beyond repair or just plain old)
For most of us, separating ourselves from clothes that are in good condition but are seldom worn is a tricky task. Invite an honest friend to come over and help you judge what is flattering, and make sure you try things on if you question the fit. Wear your favorite, flattering undergarments and comfortable clothes that you can slip easily in and out of in order to try things on with confidence.
Hey if you haven’t worn something for a year, don't you think it is time to let it go? If you are having a tough time making a decision about a particular item, place it in a fourth “maybe” pile. Set your Maybe pile aside in a separate room for a day or two, and see if you are thinking about any of the pieces: if you are, then reintegrate those choice pieces into your closet and donate the rest in the pile to charity.

Lights! Camera! Sequins!

Metallic and shiny stuff is nothing new when it comes to fashion. It’s around every season. But in fall 2009, it’s actually called the sparkle trend because designers have upped the ante. Wait, take it a step further - it’s the dark sparkle trend. It’s about bold, it’s glamorous, it’s disco, and of all things, it’s not just about eveningwear. Yes – this sparkle trend is no vampire. It works in sunshine, too!
What’s cool about sparkle this year is it’s not just about silver and gold. Look for black sequins and darker metallics such as bronze, copper, led or platinum. You can achieve this look with sequins, jewels or metallic fabrics.
Enjoy this trend because it’s glamorous and sexy! If you’re nervous, introduce elements of the trend via your handbag, shoes or jewelry. It all works and it will all make you look fabulous!

Mens Fashion and Style Icons

Mens Fashion and Style Icons
Fashion has always been, and always will be dynamic. But style is timeless. The former is largely concerned with the what is cool, or what trends are at what time, etc. The latter, is not. Few men exhibit times timeless cool and display of good taste, and those that have shone in the public eye deserve mention. The following fourteen men are ones which we believe deserve mention as having some of the most iconic style, during the last century.

Quicklist of Fashion "Must-Have's"

Everyone is always asking me for my opinion on what I consider to be "necessary" in Fashion. It really depends on what you consider essential parts of your personal wardrobe. Well here is a quicklist of what I think are Fashion "Must-Have's":
1. Headband(s)
Every woman needs at least one headband, but owning more than one is preferable. There are so many different colors, designs, textures and widths available for you to choose from. They can be worn with long or short hair in almost any single hairstyle.
2. Bangle Bracelets
Bangle bracelets are one fashion trend that seems to have remained the past few years. Whether you choose bangles made from wood, plastic or just about any other material, it is likely that they will look great with almost any outfit.
3. Cocktail Rings
Cocktail rings come in all different shapes and sizes. Generally, they are priced fairly reasonable, depending on where you purchase them, which is why you may want to consider buying more than one. They can be worn both casually and formally.
4. Boots With Fur
Whether you decide to purchase an expensive pair, such as Uggs, or you buy a cheaper variation, you will want to consider investing in a pair of boots with fur trim. Not only are they very worn, but they are also versatile. In the winter, they can be worn with jeans or sweats and in the summer, they can be worn with a skirt. There are also many different heights to choose from.
5. Sunglasses
Not only are sunglasses very important for protecting your eyes from the sun, especially when driving, but
they can also be very fashionable. Consider choosing a pair with a hot, flashy color or design, such as cheetah print. Studded sunglasses are also very popular.
6. Bobby Pins
Bobby pins can be very important to creating different hairstyles, whether they be updos or half updos. They can be very boring when you buy plain bobby pins, but it is possible to find decorative bobby pins. Whether you want flowers or butterflies, this can really dress up your hairstyles quite a bit.
7. Skinny Jeans
Although many women feel that skinny jeans are unflattering, the opposite is true. Skinny jeans look great on almost anyone. Consider choosing a darker pair for the slimmest look. If you are still uncomfortable with the idea, consider a pair of boot cut jeans instead.
8. Flat Shoes
If you do decide to purchase skinny jeans, a pair of flat shoes is going to be necessary if you want to wear them in the warmer months. They can also be worn with other outfits, of course. Luckily, there are so many types of flat shoes on the market to choose from, ranging in colors and designs. You should be able to find a pair that’s right for you.
9. Small Handbag
If you are someone who buys medium to large sized handbags, you may want to consider investing in at least one small handbag. Not only are they very useful for certain occasions, but they are also highly fashionable.
10. Black Dress
Whether you are planning on spending a night out on the town, going to a wedding or anything else, a black dress is going to be necessary for you to have. It is often said that every woman should own a "little black dress" and this statement couldn't be any more true.

Eyebrow Shaping Tips!
Eyebrows are tricky creatures. You know how they’re supposed to look, but sometimes they don’t want to cooperate, and because they’re growing out of your head, they have a semi permanent character that defies wishes and good intentions.
One of the many problems of eyebrows is the fact that if they aren’t the right color, they can either dominate your face or disappear entirely. Their unfortunate (but necessary) proximity to your eyeballs makes it a pretty major no-no to just sweep the haircolor across each brow and hope it doesn’t drip into your eyes. That’s why the goddess of practical beauty created the eyebrow pencil, an unsatisfactory solution, but sometimes better than nothing if your eyebrows happen to be very pale.

Balenciaga More Practical Futuristic Designs

Balenciaga is usually one of the top of my list as I adore the designer, however, I did find this season slightly disappointing. The futuristic influences and strong silhouettes are usually what draws the Balenciaga customer back for me, but this season had a different tone. This season is still strong as the science fiction influences were put on hold for more wearable items, and in the middle of a recession this is exactly what women want. Strong shoulders were ever present paired with beautifully fluid draping.

Breast Cancer Awareness & Facts

Every 2 minutes, there is a new breast cancer diagnosis.
Every 14 minutes, a life is lost to the disease.
Over 40,000 people will die this year; about 400 of them will be men.
85% of all diagnoses have no family history.
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between ages 40 and 55.
In the United States, breast cancer is the most common non-skin cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women. Each year, a small number of men also are diagnosed with or die from breast cancer. Although the breast cancer diagnosis rate has increased, there has been a steady drop in the overall breast cancer death rate since the early 1990's.
While the incidence rate is lower for African Americans than Whites, the mortality rate is higher. Women of other racial and ethnic groups have lower incidence and mortality rates.
It is estimated that approximately $8.1 billion* is spent in the United States each year on treatment of breast cancer.

Bust Out That Smoky Fall Eye!

Black's back and in a big way this fall and winter! Whether it's opening night, amateur night, or just a night out, black and washed out shades of black and grey are painting an elegantly gothic look on eyes for the season.
Going dramatic? Try a black kohl pencil on the lid, with a black eye shadow over it. Then put a softly blended grey into the crease and slightly blend it up and off the eye.
For a more natural look, or a bit of daytime chic, use a very natural or nude color eye shadow on the lid. After, put a black pencil in the waterline or use a liquid liner to make a sharp line across the top lash line. When applying mascara, this season is about the blackest of black mascaras.
Here are a few other things amazing artists are doing:
1. For incredible multi-dimensional color, start your eye makeup off with a black base (black cream shadow or a black kohl all over the lid) then add any color, like a gold or fushia over it for a deep sultry effect.
2. Contouring with black-mix a very small amount of a black eyeshadow with your bronzer to contour under the cheekbones, then lightly blend a loose or mineral powder over the contour to soften the harsh contrast.
As with any trend, use with discretion. At a certain age, black can add years to your face. If you find this is the case with you, stick to using black just as a liner or mascara!

The Link Between Music and Fashion
Gone are the days when pop musicians and their record labels could rely on selling their albums via traditional record stores. The windows of music stores may lie empty, FYE may no longer sale as many CDs, and 25 per cent of independent record shops may be lost, but if people have fallen out of the habit of visiting record shops, a new outlet for CDs is now opening up. Stores such as Gap and Urban Outfitters have been selling CDs in-store for years, allowing customers to buy what they hear playing in the store as they browse through the high fashion and vintage clothes racks. And upmarket retailer Mac Cosmetics has also sold records by music artists. By playing hip new music, customers can discover new music as they shop, with the music on sale including albums from their favorites.

Runway Review: With the shows over, whats promising for spring/summer 2010?

Runway Review: With the shows over, what looks most promising for spring/summer 2010?
Fashion has always been known for soft, fluid fabrics and innovative, but completely wearable designs that showcase modern twists on classically feminine styles. Using a sweetly somber palette of creams, blues and metal grey tones, designers can do just this. At this year's Fashion Week, an array of sexy and modern dresses and skirts that still manage to be alluringly feminine could be viewed. There was a large variety of dresses, skirts and short shorts that featured details such as clever draping, soft, fluttering tiers, origami-inspired pleats and, as the trends have predicted, high hemlines. This season has many fashion promises!
