    New Year's Fashion Resolutions

Happy 2009 everyone! Now that the holidays have passed and we’re looking at a fresh new year ahead, I know everyone is making their new year’s resolutions. A lot of my clients have made financial resolutions, a particularly savvy choice in the new economy. Resolving to stay economically sound doesn't mean you can’t continue to enjoy developing your style even during a recession.

Take this time to inject some creativity into your wardrobe, while remaining budget conscious.

    1. Make a list and check it twice: Shop only for a few items that you know will round out your wardrobe. Take your list with you, and have the resolve to stick to it.
    2. Upgrade the quality level: Even higher-end retailers are feeling the recessional pinch. Now is the time when you might be able to upgrade the quality of your clothing items for the price you’d pay for a lower quality item. What’s the upside here? You might spend the same as you would ordinarily but the higher quality of the items you buy means they’ll look richer, wear better, and last longer.
    3. Accessorize: Use exciting, inexpensive accessory changes to update your existing wardrobe and keep your budget in check. One neutral or black dress can take on a number of different looks when paired with one piece of chunky costume jewelry or funky patterned scarf. Experiment!
    4. Tailoring: Compare the cost of tailoring against purchasing new, and then update existing wardrobe items by having them tailored to meet the current trend: taper your straight leg jeans for a skinny look, or take in a men’s wear vest for a curvy, fitted look for a far more reasonable price point than buying a new item.

    Where the Wild Things Are

With the recent hype of all things furry, there's no need to go into hibernation this winter. Fur and faux fur vests crawled their way down the Fall/Winter 09 runways, instantly warming up our fashion senses. Seen here on model Erin Wasson, the fur vest can be worn as a chic or bohemian look.

For a chic day look, throw a vest over a loose henley and skinny jeans, and finish with a pair of flats or moccasins.

At night, go with a black vest over a pair of shiny black leggings and a sleek blouse... don't forget the leather booties.

A faux fur vest doesn't need to be expensive to look it. Faux fur is an affordable and ethical option, and there are many out there to choose from without sacrificing the overall look.

It's time to start the wild fabulousness!

    Hound of Style

This roomy shoulder bag by revolutionoftheheart has the skills to pay the bills. Metal accents, houndstooth, and a bow? Color me a Brit in love!

While matching your bag to your clothes and other accessories is suitable fashion behavior, color-coordinating can sometimes get snoozy. To change things up, throw a statement-making purse into the mix—something bright, bedazzled or patterned—like. It goes with nothing, and thus, goes with everything. This will lighten up any outfit for any occasion.

NEW YORK (Dec. 11, 2009) — For Mariah Carey's legions of North American fans, the long wait is over, as the international superstar announces her first major tour itinerary in more than three years. Following a festive New Year's Eve kick-off at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the "Angels Advocate" Tour begins Jan. 2, 2010, at the Borgata in Atlantic City, N.J., and wraps up Feb. 27 at The Pearl Concert Theater in Las Vegas, Nev.

Honey B. Fly, the official Mariah Carey Fan Club, will be offering exclusive member pre-sales for all show dates. Fans can get details on the official Web site, MariahCarey.com. Tickets for the majority of the tour will go on sale Dec. 19.

The 8-week, 19-city "Angels Advocate" Tour is the first major tour by Mariah Carey since The "Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, The Hits, The Tour" of August through October 2006. The opening act on the "Angels Advocate" Tour will be RydazNrtist, a new R&B group signed to Nick Cannon's NCredible Entertainment.

MEMOIRS OF AN IMPERFECT ANGEL, Mariah Carey's 12th studio album, follows her multi-platinum E=MC2 (2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (2005). The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. Soundscan's biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured "We Belong Together" (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. Three years later, "Touch My Body" (from E=MC2) became her 18th #1 Hot 100 hit, surpassing Elvis Presley's previous record of 17 #1 Hot 100 Hits. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits. The success of E=MC2 brought total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 175 million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history!
